York ice cream parlor to donate portion of sales to radKIDS
YORK, Maine — The Village Scoop ice cream parlor will donate 15 percent of its sales on Wednesday to benefit the York radKIDS program.
RadKIDS stands for "Resist Aggression Defensively"and teaches children how to prevent themselves from being kidnapped, and how to deal with other dangerous situations, such as fires, that may occur in their homes. The program lessons include physical defense techniques to prevent abduction.
"I think it's a good cause, and it's a good way for us to become part of the community," said Arnold Undzis, owner of Village Scoop. "I only hope the weather is good so we get a good turnout."
Compassion 4 Children, a York-based children's advocate group, is sponsoring York's branch of the national radKIDS program. Suzanne Heyland, director of Compassion 4 Children and radKIDS instructor, graduated her first class in March.
The ice cream parlor is open noon to 9 p.m. and is located on York Street near the public library. Undzis said the parlor will donate at least $150 to radKIDS if sales are low on Wednesday.
