Keeping children safe

From staff reports

Wednesday marked the conclusion of three days of training for a dozen area youth workers and educators in the radKIDS child-safety education program. Steve Daley, radKIDS founder and trainer, taught the adults a variety of methods to help children avoid, resist and escape violence and abuse. A national survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation found 74 percent of 8- to 11-year-olds said teasing and bullying occur at their schools. The goal of the train-the-trainer event, held at the Allen County Sheriff’s Training Center, was to teach radKIDS techniques to many more adults in northeast Indiana so the information can be passed on to elementary-age children throughout the community. Sponsored locally by the Fort Wayne Women’s Bureau, radKIDS was brought to Fort Wayne through a Paul Clarke Foundation grant. For more information on the program, visit www.radKIDS.org or call the Women’s Bureau at 424-7977.
