Father of kidnap victim will speak
Ed Smart, father of Elizabeth Smart, will be speak 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at Myers Park Baptist Church.He will describe what his family learned from Elizabeth's kidnapping and how to make homes and neighborhoods safer for children. His daughter was taken from her bedroom in June 2002 and returned nearly a year later.
Also on hand will be Steve Daly, director of radKIDS. The organization trains children to defend themselves.
Cost is $10. Tickets: 704-376-3688. This is part of a three-part program "Safeguarding Childhood" sponsored by the Mecklenburg Medical Alliance and Endowment.
Baseball stadium rally is noon today
The Bring Back Baseball rally will be noon today at the Wachovia Plaza, Tryon and Second streets. The rally is in support of building a downtown minor league baseball stadium.
The first 1,000 people will get free hot dogs and soda. Participants will also receive free popcorn, peanuts, Cracker Jacks and other items.
Charlotte Knights players will also attend.
