Western New England College Cares About Kids
Three-credit elective course offered to certify students as radKIDS instructors
SPRINGFIELD, MA…Western New England College continues to offer a three-credit elective course to certify students as radKIDS instructors. It is the only college in the country with such a program. Students who successfully complete the course will obtain a national certification through radKIDS.
Students will be assigned in pairs throughout Western Massachusetts for the Community Outreach Program. They will be responsible for taking their knowledge of radKIDS into area communities to instruct children and their parents on child personal safety. To date, Western New England College has certified over 50 students.
A portion of the course requirement was for students to participate in a 24-hour seminar, which was held in October and conducted by radKIDS Executive Director Stephen Daley.
The program, which was founded by Daley in 1998, is dedicated to providing proven and effective life saving skills for children ages 5-11 by teaching them how to "resist aggression defensively." There are now more than 1,400 certified instructors of the program in 42 states and Canada. For more information on radKIDS program log onto www.radkids.org.
The course will be offered again in the Spring 2005.
