radKIDS®: History / Mission
radKIDS® Mission Statement
radKIDS®, Inc. is committed to providing education that
enhances the ability of children, parents, and
families to utilize knowledge, skills, and power to
protect themselves from violence and harm.
The History of radKIDS®
In the mid 1990's, a dedicated group of law
enforcement professionals, self-defense experts and
concerned parents joined forces in an effort to
develop a children's safety education program that
would, in a fun and interactive way, combine the
essential elements of risk reduction strategies with
physical skill options to avoid abduction. In May of
1998, after extensive research and development, the
radKIDS® Personal Empowerment Safety Education Program
opened its doors. radKIDS® is an innovative
comprehensive safety education program for children
ages 5-12.
Since the organization's inception in 1998, radKIDS®,
Inc. has provided the radKIDS® Personal Empowerment
Safety Education Program to more than
250,000
children
across North America. As a result, statistics show
that among children who have been radKID-trained,
there has been a significant reduction in attempted
assaults. In those instances in which assaults have
been attempted, there has been a 100% successful
escape rate. Nationally, radKIDS® instructors have
documented literally hundreds of disclosures and escapes from
sexual assault and sexual abuse.
In July 1999, after participating in the development
and founding of radKIDS®, Stephen M. Daley assumed the
responsibilities and duties of the first Executive
Director of radKIDS®, Inc. Steve joined radKIDS® full
time after an accomplished 20 year law enforcement
career. At that point radKIDS® hit the ground running.
radKIDS® joined the information highway in January
2000 with the establishment of
www.radKIDS.org an
informational web site for parents and children as
well as a resource for instructors. In April 2001,
radKIDS® applied for and achieved status as a
not-for-profit 501(c) 3 Educational Organization.
radKIDS-L, the official radKIDS list serve, was created
in 2001 as an information-sharing tool for our
dedicated alliance of more than
3500
instructors located
throughout the United States and Canada to exchange
data or post questions.
radKIDS® is the new and revolutionary leader in
children’s personal empowerment safety education and
violence prevention for children. radKIDS® continues
to provide leadership in promoting and implementing
both national as well as community based safety
education programs and services to children and
parents.
